| Winter On the Farm |
It's been over a
month since we last enjoyed seeing you all at the Winter Market.
Though there are no market days right now, we wanted to keep you
updated with everything happening with the Market and with our
vendors.
We're very
excited to tell you that we have added an extra Saturday to the
Winter Market in December 2012. There will be Winter Markets on
Saturday, November 3, 10, and 17th as well as December 1, 8, 15, and
22nd.
We should be
able to post a tentative listing of vendors for the regular season
Market within the next month. We have a large majority of vendors
from last year returning in 2012 and we will have some new additions
to the outdoor Market as well. Stay tuned.
I Bought It, Now What? I found some strip steaks from Willow Lea Stock Farm in my freezer last week. I'm going to share the recipe we used to create our homemade dry rub we used to prepare the steaks before cooking. Thaw the steaks in the refrigerator overnight. Then, mix together brown sugar, Spanish paprika, granulated garlic, onion powder, celery salt, and crushed red pepper. We use enough to cover the steaks on both sides. Rub the mixture into the steaks and place them into a container and leave sit out for two hours, so steaks are at room temperature before cooking. Using a cast iron skillet, place a generous tablespoon of olive oil in the bottom of the pan and let the oil get nice and hot. Place the steaks into the skillet and let sear. Turn the steaks over and sear the other side. We like our steaks pretty rare so they don't cook for very long but you need to cook them to your taste. Once they are done cooking, remove them from heat and place them on a plate and let sit for 5 minutes so the juices redistribute in the meat before slicing into them. We'd love to hear how you're using your products that you purchase each week at the Market. Click Here to send us an email with your stories. We'll feature them in upcoming newsletters and on Facebook.

I recently took
a trip out to Poplar Grove, IL to visit the Robinson Family at
R Family Farm. It's
incredible to see how much work our vendors have to do during the
Winter months. Cindee was feeding her pigs and collecting eggs in
one of the chicken houses when we arrived.
They offer their
products in the store out at their farm year round and also do a
product pick up at the Ridgefield Church occasionally on Friday
nights. Cindee posts her schedule on her
Facebook page.
