Budding Roots

Young Entrepreneurs Program for young people aged 8-15

The Budding Roots Young Entrepreneurs Program is designed to give young people real-world entrepreneurial experience in a supportive, community-centered environment. Aligned with Illinois’ Lemonade Stand laws, this program helps children learn the fundamentals of small business ownership while participating in the Woodstock Farmers Market.

Young entrepreneurs may apply to sell handmade, non-food products that they create themselves. Participants will gain hands-on experience in product development, marketing, customer service, money management, and business planning.

Like our regular vendor program, Budding Roots follows an application process and application period. However, we often have a bit more flexibility within this program and encourage interested young entrepreneurs to apply. From time to time, additional spaces may become available outside of the standard application period.

For the safety and success of all participants, a parent, guardian, or other trusted adult must attend the market alongside the young entrepreneur.

Whether you’re making jewelry, artwork, crafts, clothing accessories, or another handmade creation, we encourage you to dream big, get creative, and take your first steps into entrepreneurship with Budding Roots.

Activities for Kids

The Woodstock Farmers Market is a great place for kids to explore, learn, and have fun. While the market offers plenty of opportunities to discover where food comes from, meet local farmers, and enjoy healthy, fresh foods, we also offer activities that make a visit to the market even more enjoyable for our youngest guests.

Weather permitting, you’ll often find bubbles floating through the center of the Square, creating a little extra magic for children as they shop and explore with their families.

Every Saturday at 10:30 a.m., children are invited to join us at the gazebo for Story Time Saturdays, sponsored by our friends at Read Between the Lines. Each week features stories that celebrate imagination, curiosity, and community.

On the Fourth of July, we add a special tradition to the morning. Following Story Time, children, families, and pets are invited to participate in our Bike, Trike, Stroller, Wagon, and Pet Parade. Participants are encouraged to decorate their bikes, trikes, wagons, strollers, scooters, or pet companions and join us for a festive lap around the inside sidewalk of the Square.

Whether they’re chasing bubbles, listening to stories, meeting farmers, or showing off their parade decorations, there’s always something for kids to enjoy at the Woodstock Farmers Market.
